Act 4, Scene 2 Summary

Location: Fife. A room in Macduff’s castle.
Characters: Lady Macduff, Rosse, Son, Messenger, Murderer
Events: Lady Macduff tells Rosse that Macduff fleeing to England showed no concern for his wife and childen. She thinks that he lacks the feelings of a father and husband and his actions are driven purely by fear and not his love for his family. Soon after Rosse leaves, Lady Macduff’s son arrives and she tells him that his father is dead. He asks her about traitors. A messenger comes to tell Lady Macduff of near danger. The Murderers enter and demand Macduff for he is a traitor. They then stab Lady Macduff’s son, killing him. Lady Macduff screams murder and attempts to run away while the murderers go after her.
