Macbeth – Act 3, Scene 1

Act 3, Scene 1 Summary

Location: A room in the palace
Characters: Banquo, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Lenox, Rosse, lords and attendants
Events: Macbeth has just become King of Scotland. Banquo is fearful that Macbeth murdered Duncan and wonders if the Witches prophecy to him will come true. Macbeth plans a feast for his friends and family. Him and Banquo speak of where Banquo intends to ride this afternoon. Macbeth talks with two murderers, he has previously spoken to, and convinces them that Banquo is the enemy. He challenges their masculinity by asking them what kind of men they are if they are willing to put up with it. He also convinces them to have Fleance killed too. Macbeth wants to kill Banquo because he feels threatened by him.
