Act 2, Scene 1 Summary
Location: A courtyard within Macbeth’s castle
Characters: Macbeth, Banquo, Fleance
Events: Banquo and Macbeth discuss the Witches after Banquo has a dream about them. Banquo leaves Macbeth at his consent. Suddenly, Macbeth sees a vision of a blood-stained dagger. In Macbeth’s soliloquy, he speaks to the dagger and comes to the conclusion that the violence of his actions is making him see it. He believes this is a sign he must kill Duncan, and is now motivated to do so.
